PIERMARINI, RIGATTIERI, MONARCH STABLES TOP STANDINGS
AT SUFFOLK DOWNS AGAIN
EAST BOSTON, MA - Familiar names topped the 2012 standings as jockey Tammi Piermarini, trainer John Rigattieri and owner Monarch Stables once again took home year-end honors at Suffolk Downs as the track concluded its live racing season on Saturday, November 3.
Piermarini amassed 87 wins during the 80-day meet to capture her third straight riding title and the fourth of her career at Suffolk Downs. The 45-year-old mother of three won with 20% of her mounts for earnings of $961,173. Jacqueline Davis was second with 63 wins. Earlier this year, Piermarini continued her climb up the list of all-time winningest female jockeys, moving into third place on July 23. She trails only Julie Krone and Rosemary Homeister.
Rigattieri continued his reign atop the trainer standings, earning his ninth consecutive title at the East Boston oval. Rigattieri saddled 49 winners from 167 starters (29%). Jay Bernardini was second with 42 wins.
Frank Bertolino’s Monarch Stables earned its second consecutive leading owner title with 29 trips to the winner’s circle. Suffolk Downs newcomer Glockenburg LLC was second with 26 wins. In July, Bertolino was inducted into the New England Turf Writers Association Hall of Fame.
