CHAVEZ RELEASED FROM HOSPITAL, CLEARED TO RIDE THURSDAY

ELMONT, N.Y. – X-rays were negative on jockey Jorge Chavez, a winner of 18 New York riding titles, after a spill that occurred Wednesday, September 22 at Belmont Park. He has been released from North Shore Hospital in Manhasset and is cleared to ride Thursday.

The 48-year-old Peruvian jockey was riding Pea Stone for trainer Faustino Ramos when the 2-1 favorite fell going around the far turn in Belmont’s fifth race, a $25,000 turf claiming event on the Widener Turf Course.

Pea Stone, a 4-year-old daughter of Smart Strike, was euthanized after suffering a compound fracture of her left front leg.
