Trainer Wayne Catalano – already easily established as
Talons Racing’s Loves to Fly won Friday’s fourth race by five lengths for Catalano to equal that mark. Fittingly, Loves to Fly was ridden by jockey Shane Sellers, who set
“I’m very happy we were able to tie that record,” said Catalano during training hours Saturday morning. “We’ve had a good meet. The horses all ran well and that’s the most important thing.”
Although Catalano has no horses entered Saturday, the penultimate day of Arlington’s 2010 session, the 54-year-old New Orleans native has Greg Besinger’s Summer Upcountry in Sunday’s fourth race and Gary and Mary West’s appropriately-named Sacred Ground in the sixth event on that closing day program.
“Maybe we set the bar too high last time,” said Catalano with a Cheshire-like grin when asked if he thought he could break his own record. “I suppose we’ve got a shot. I guess they’re both fairly live horses, but I haven’t had a chance to handicap the other horses in those races.”
Summer Upcountry is the 4-1 second choice in the morning line for Sunday’s fourth race and Sacred Ground has been pegged at 8-1 in the sixth.
Catalano will be earning his sixth straight local title this summer as well as his ninth in the last 11 years. On August 8 this summer, Catalano tied the late Jere Smith Sr. for the second spot on

JOCKEY CASTANON RIDES 1,997 TH ‘T-BRED’-CAREER WINNER FRIDAY
Veteran reinsman Jesus Castanon guided Charles Patton’s Inside Deal to a front-running victory by a head in Friday’s sixth race to register his 1,997th Thoroughbred career win.
The 37-year-old native of Panama City, Panama, riding a complete season at Arlington for the first time this summer, is listed to ride six horses Saturday – many of them “live” according to the morning line odds for Saturday.

As a way to say “Thank You” to its loyal guests, Arlington Park will have a “Fan Appreciation Day” on Sunday’s closing day program of its 91-day 2010 session.
There will be free General Admission for all attendees, and those guests who previously purchased a single-day stand alone general admission ticket or a single-day reserved seat with general admission package for Sept. 26 will receive a $6 wagering voucher upon presentation of their pre-paid ticket at the redemption booths. In addition there will be reduced prices on reserved seats.
