SKEDEE COMMANDING IN RETURN TO FEMALE COMPETITION

OKLAHOMA CITY – After just missing in a stakes attempt last month against males, Skedee returned Friday night at Remington Park to face female rivals and rolled to a sharp 2-3/4 length victory over the turf course.

Skedee faced other Oklahoma-breds in the $50,000 Red Earth Stakes over the Remington Park turf course in August, settling for second after being worn down in the final strides at 7-1/2 furlongs by Evening Reward. Friday at the same distance, Skedee would not be defeated as she moved to the lead when the field of five turned for home in a $34,650 optional allowance event. Under Chris Landeros, Skedee glided to the front and pulled clear to win after putting away the pace-setting Catale Wind.

The Cat Who rallied for second while Shotgun Gulch was another 2-3/4 lengths behind in third. Catale Wind faded to fourth.

Owned by the Ringwood, Okla. partnership of Robert Poteet and John & Mary Lowder, Skedee is trained by Mary Lowder. The 5-year-old Oklahoma-bred mare handled 7-1/2 furlongs over firm turf in 1:28.85.

The heavy wagering favorite at 1-2 odds, Skedee paid $3 to win, $2.20 to place and $2.10 to show. The Cat Who paid $4 to place and $2.20 to show. Shotgun Gulch returned $2.10 to show.

The victory was the sixth from 17 career attempts and the fifth win at Remington Park for Skedee, a daughter of Sefapiano from the De Sarmiento mare Phuri Dai. She earned $21,150 for the effort to run her lifetime money to $204,636.

The Remington Park Thoroughbred Season continues Saturday night at 6:30pm with the $50,000 Remington Park Turf Sprint for Oklahoma-breds featured at five furlongs.

The 22nd-running of the Oklahoma Derby will be contested on Sunday, Oct. 10, the lone Sunday of racing this season. The $400,000 Oklahoma Derby headlines a stellar card that includes the $200,000 Remington Park Oaks and the $150,000 Remington Green Stakes. The first race on Oklahoma Derby Day is at 1:30pm.
