THOROUGHBRED RETIREMENT DAY AT SPA ON AUGUST 18; NYRA MAKING DONATIONS TO RETIREMENT AND RESCUE ORGANIZATIONS

In addition to the on-track activities, following the second race, NYRA will be donating $5,000 checks to the Thoroughbred Retirement Foundation (TRF), Old Friends, and the Exceller Fund.
To raise awareness of horse retirement and rescue organizations, the following groups will also be handing out informational flyers and collecting donations in the community outreach booth and the area in front of the jockeys’ room: Exceller Fund, Old Friends, Peaceful Acres, Pure Thoughts, ReRun, and the TRF

About the Exceller Fund
The Exceller Fund works to transition Thoroughbred horses to a second career off the track. The Exceller Fund acquires horses that might be at risk for slaughter and cares for them until an adoptive home is found or retirement for a few horses when sponsorship is provided. The Exceller Fund also works to facilitate the placement of Thoroughbreds with local horse rescue organizations. Peaceful Acres Horses, Inc., is a "Sanctuary for Horses and People". A Not - For Profit 501 ( c ) (3) Organization. The horses at Peaceful Acres are rescued from abandonment, neglect, abuse or are retired by their owners to come live in sanctuary at Peaceful Acres. The horses are rehabilitated emotionally and physically to become partners in equine assisted learning and psychotherapy programs for youth, adults, couples and families. ReRun Inc. is a 501(c)(3) non-profit Thoroughbred adoption program whose mission is to help ex-racehorses find a second career. About the Thoroughbred Retirement Foundation
Founded in 1983, the TRF is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization dedicated to retiring Thoroughbred racehorses after they are finished racing. TRF operates retraining and adoption facilities and satellite farms across the country as well as vocational training in equine care for inmates at nine correctional facilities nationwide.
