INAUGURAL TRAVERS 1864 RESTAURANT WEEK CELEBRATES THE HISTORY OF SARATOGA'S SIGNATURE RACE
Dozens of Capital Region restaurants to offer special $18.64 menu August 22-26
SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. Nearly 40 area restaurants and eateries will offer special pricing and menus in celebration of the Travers Stakes through participation in the first-ever "Travers 1864 Restaurant Week" from Sunday, August 22 through Thursday, August 26.
During the five-day event, diners have the opportunity to indulge in a three-course meal at a number of participating Capital Region restaurants for the prix-fixe cost of $18.64, the year of the inaugural running of the Travers, the oldest major stakes race in the country for 3-year-olds.
The area-wide epicurean offering will take place in the days leading up to the 141st running of the Grade 1, $1 million Travers Stakes on Saturday, August 28 at Saratoga Race Course.
"Travers 1864 is one element of a community-wide celebration in honor of our biggest and most historic race," said Neema Ghazi, director of marketing for The New York Racing Association. "We'd like to encourage all of our fans to take part in the many festivities that help to make the Travers Stakes the social and sporting event of the season."

The Travers Stakes was first run in 1864 in Saratoga. Its inaugural winner, Kentucky, was owned by one of Saratoga Race Course's founders and its first president, William R. Travers, for whom the race was named.
Gates open at 7 a.m. on Travers Day with a special first post time of 11:35 a.m.
The Travers day undercard will include the Grade 1, $250,000 King's Bishop for three-year-old sprinters at seven furlongs; the Grade 1, $250,000 Ballerina for fillies and mares at seven furlongs; the Grade 2, $200,000 Ballston Spa for fillies and mares at a mile and a sixteenth on the turf; and the Grade 3, $100,000 Victory Ride for three-year-old fillies at six furlongs.
