EXPERIENCE THE THRILL OF SARATOGA RACE COURSE WITH FRIDAY THE 13TH FESTIVITIES

SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. – Racing fans will make ‘13’ their lucky number when Saratoga Race Course shuns superstition and celebrates the thrills and fun of Halloween on Friday, August 13.

The Halloween-themed day will include a number of frightfully fun activities and entertainment for track guests, including a children’s costume contest and parade, trick or treating at track landmarks, special dance performances, face painting and arts and crafts.

The highlight of the day will be a special trackside children’s costume parade. Children are encouraged to don their favorite costume and show off their Halloween-best in the procession. Participants will gather at the Big Red Spring at 12:15 p.m. before marching through the backyard and then down the track apron from the top of the stretch to the winner’s circle. Prizes will be awarded to the best costume.

From 12:45 to 2:30 p.m., children will receive a sweet treat while learning about Saratoga Race Course’s history and traditions as they trick-or-treat around the track’s most historic landmarks. Trick-or-treat locations include the Big Red Spring, Jockey Silks Room, the Bandstand, and the Spa’s newest culinary hot spot, The Post, featuring Shake Shack and Blue Smoke.

Track patrons will receive a ghoulish dose of entertainment with a special reenactment of the iconic dance routine featured in Michael Jackson’s 1980s hit music video Thriller. Performed by a group of dancers organized by local choreographer Abby Todd, the routine will be staged after the day’s second race on the track apron.

The Capital Region’s favorite costumed characters will make a special visit to the track for the day. Local mascots Southpaw and Rowdy from the Tri-City ValleyCats, The Cat from 104.9 FM, Devil Dawg from the Albany Devils, Cuppie and the Donut from Dunkin’ Donuts, and other familiar faces will be available to meet fans during the day.

Families and children are also invited to visit the Ballston Spa National Bank Family Fun Zone, which will feature a number of family-friendly activities, including spirited hair and makeup designs from SNIPITS, face painting and arts and crafts from the Children’s Museum of Saratoga, and inflatable bounce houses from Maui PlayCare.
