SPRING WARRIOR ROLLS TO 2ND STRAIGHT BIG WIN

OKLAHOMA CITY – It took Spring Warrior six races, five different racetracks, three different racing surfaces (as well as off tracks and courses) and three owners and trainers before figuring out how to win. The 3-year-old colt has now dominated two consecutive races at Remington Park with an apparently bright future.

Owned now by Clark Brewster of Tulsa, Okla. after claiming him at Saratoga in July for $25,000, Spring Warrior is trained by Steve Asmussen. The 3-year-old colt crushed his allowance competition Thursday by 9-1/4 lengths. The $32,040 allowance event for non-winners of two career races was the stage for a second straight domination after Spring Warrior broke his maiden status in mid-September here by 14 lengths.

Jockey Luis Quinonez put Spring Warrior on the lead and let him cruise, guiding him around the track with plenty left at the end to cross the 6-1/2 furlong finish line in 1:16.44. Rite To Rule was a distant second with Cross Hammers third.

The heavy wagering favorite at 4-5 odds, Spring Warrior paid $3.60 to win, $3 to place and $2.20 to show. Rite To Rule paid $5 to place and $4.20 to show. Cross Hammers paid $9.60 to show.

Spring Warrior started his racing career in February at Santa Anita, running a distant fourth in a maiden event won by Paynter who would go on to run second in this year’s Belmont Stakes and then win the Haskell Invitation at Monmouth Park this summer. After that race, Spring Warrior raced over synthetic surface at Keeneland in Kentucky and turf courses at Belmont Park and Saratoga in New York before moving to Oklahoma City.

The second career win from eight attempts was worth $17,847 for Spring Warrior who moved his earnings to $62,744. He is a Kentucky-bred colt by Speightstown from the Pulpit mare Ten Carat Lady.

Jockey Glen Murphy posted a riding triple on Thursday scoring with Miss Lewis ($8.20 to win) in the opening race, Sister Ginger ($18.20) in the third race and Ginger Brick Road ($8.20) in the sixth race. Murphy now has 20 wins on the season and moved into a tie for fourth in the standings with Bryan McNeil. They both trail leading jockey Luis Quinonez who has 30 wins.

The Remington Park Thoroughbred Season continues Friday and Saturday at 6:30pm nightly. The lone stakes race this week falls on Friday as fillies and mare sprint six furlongs in the $50,000 Flashy Lady Stakes.
