OKIE TUFF ROLLS WIDE THEN PULLS CLEAR FOR SPRINT SCORE
OKLAHOMA CITY – A solid field of sprinters were featured in the sixth race on Saturday at Remington Park, a $31,500 allowance/optional claiming event at 5-1/2 furlongs. Okie Tuff avoided any traffic and moved wide through the turn before drawing away to win by an authoritative three lengths.
Owned by Clint Donaho of Copan, Okla. and trained by Scott Young, Okie Tuff was ridden by Floyd Wethey, Jr. The 4-year-old gelding broke well in the sprint, then settled in behind the dueling pace-setters, Master Time and Humble Smarty. In the turn, Wethey moved Okie Tuff off the rail and around the front-runners, taking the lead at the top of the stretch before putting the field away. Okie Tuff crossed the finish in 1:03.79 over the fast track.
The wagering favorite at 7-5 odds, Okie Tuff paid $4.80 to win, $3 to place and $2.80 to show. Humble Smarty held second and returned $3.40 to place and $4 to show. Unbridled Venture gained late into third and returned $5.20 to show.
Okie Tuff is a Maryland-bred by Lion Heart from the Broad Brush mare Dulcet. He won his fifth career race from nine attempts and posted his initial win at Remington Park. The winner’s check of $18,798 increases his lifetime earnings to $70,181.
Okie Tuff competed in the sixth race for a $35,000 claiming price and was purchased out of the race. His new owner is Maggi Moss of Des Moines, Iowa and his new trainer will be Chris Richard.
