RALLY FROM LAST TO VICTORY IN FINAL QUARTER-MILE FOR ITSABEAUTIFULTHING
OKLAHOMA CITY – Saturday’s $32,040 allowance feature over the turf had a field of eight fillies and mares going a mile. Last of the eight with just a quarter-mile remaining was Itsabeautifulthing but jockey Cliff Berry had plenty beneath him to fly through traffic to post a half-length win.
Owned by Cheyenne Stables of Edmond, Okla. and trained by Roger Engel, Itsabeutifulthing was patient at the back of the field for the first six furlongs of the race. Berry kept the 4-year-old filly at the rail to save ground throughout, then asked for her run midway in the final turn. Itsabeautifulthing responded with a burst of energy, then angled off the rail with a furlong left to move between rivals and eventually to the front just before the finish.
Bonnie Parker had the lead late in the stretch but could not hold on after setting the pace from the start of the race. The 9-5 wagering favorite, Bonnie Parker settled for third after the winner passed her to the inside and Aire Of Victory went by her outside to take second.
Itsabeautifulthing covered the mile over firm turf in 1:37.54. She was 7-2 in the wagering and paid $9 to win, $4.20 to place and $2.40 to show. Aire Of Victory paid $7.80 to place and $4.40 to show. The favored Bonnie Parker paid $2.40 to show.
The win was the second from five lifetime starts for Itsabeautifulthing, a Kentucky-bred daughter of Henny Hughes from the Northern Jove mare Jolie Boutique. In winning her Remington Park debut, Itsabeautifulthing made $17,847 to run her overall earnings to $33,241.
Remington Park Thoroughbred racing will resume Wednesday thru Saturday, Sept. 12-15 with the first race nightly at 6:30pm. The $50,000 Remington Park Turf Sprint for Oklahoma-breds going five furlongs is the featured stakes event next week, on Friday, Sept. 14.
