NYRA UNVEILS 2012 TRAVERS LOGO

SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. – The New York Racing Association, Inc. (NYRA) has unveiled the logo for the 143rd running of the Travers Stakes.

The 2012 Travers logo features a depiction of a horse and jockey on top of the signature Travers Canoe. Since 1961, the silk colors of the Travers winner have been painted on the canoe, which sits on a pond in the lush Saratoga infield. The logo was designed by the company Kevin Creative.

The 143rd running of the Grade 1, $1 million Travers is scheduled for Saturday, August 25. Known as the “Midsummer Derby,” the prestigious 1 ¼-mile race was first run in 1864, making it the oldest major stakes race in the country for 3-year-olds.
