Skyline Lover Delivers The Goods In Christmas Eve Feature At Hialeah Amidst Record Handle
Hialeah, FL December 24- While Santa Claus was readying his sleigh, Hialeah Park in South Florida was showcasing Quarter Horse racing for those fans looking for a little extra Christmas money. The Christmas Eve feature was the $20,000 Crystal River Stakes on the world famous Widener Course at 660 yards.
The betting favorite and winner of the Orange Blossom, Skyline Lover headlined the cast of nine racing over the Widener course at 660 yards. The field left the starting gate with Skyline Lover coming away alertly under J.D. Mitchener, with tons on clear racing room on the inside. Midway, the long striding gelding thwarted any ideas of an upset, kicking in to high gear and drawing away to an easy two and a quarter length score while wrapped up late. Owned by Dan Frazier, Skyline Lover is conditioned by trainer Matt Frazier. Riden With The King, under hot jockey Oscar Delgado did everything he could and ended up second, with Run Likea Streaker a game third. The win improves Skyline Lover’s local record to a perfect 2 for 2.
When asked if Skyline Lover would be tried around the turn in the closing weekend Sailfish Stakes at 1000 yards, trainer Matt Frazier grinned and replied simply “I think we might”.
A son of Feature Mr Jess out of the Royal Quick Dash mare Loves That Gold, Skyline Lover completed the course in a quick time of 31.994 over the fast Hialeah main track and returned $3.40 to win as the odds-on favorite. The win was the 3rd in a row for the horse and 8th lifetime score in the gelding’s career, pushing his career earnings to over $150,000.
The stakes action capped off a big afternoon at Hialeah Park. Bolstered by extensive coverage by the TVG Network, all sources handle for the eight race card was $305,029, a record for the quarter horse era of racing at the famed South Florida oval.
Live racing returns Sunday to Hialeah Park, with the $60,000 Hialeah Derby headlined by fastest qualifier Streakin Rare. The track will be holding a special holiday racing card on Monday December 27th. The racing season at the famed oval continues through January 23rd with racing every Friday, Saturday and Sunday at 2:05 pm. Hialeah Park offers free parking and admission every day, with valet parking available for just $3. Happy Holidays from everyone at Hialeah Park!
