Leah Gyarmati, winning trainer of Big Brownie (No. 3): “I’ve only had her for a few weeks. Peter [Pugh] was leaving for Florida, and as she is a New York-bred, the smart thing seemed to be leaving her here for the winter. She actually ran really well in her last race [fourth after being bumped at the start]. I breezed her once since then, and kind of coasted into this one.”

 

John Velazquez, winning jockey aboard Big Brownie (No. 3): “That was perfect. I couldn’t have drawn a better trip than that. She ran awesome. She was brave enough to squeeze through [on the inside] and when I asked her, she responded right away. You have to have the horse to do that and it worked out well.”
