FAVORED OKIE MOTIVE PREVAILS IN SPRINT FEATURE

OKLAHOMA CITY – Oklahoma-breds had the spotlight Friday night at Remington Park in a $33,200 allowance at 6-1/2 furlongs. Okie Motive wore down the leaders in the stretch to win by three-quarters of a length.

Owned and trained by Randy Oberlander of Edmond, Okla. and ridden by Curtis Kimes, Okie Motive sat just a length off the early lead in the sprint before making his move leaving the turn into the stretch. Adios Sweetie had the advantage as the field of eight reached the lane but could not hold off the effort of Okie Motive, settling instead for second. Okie Ride rallied late for third, 1-1/2 lengths behind the runner-up.

Okie Motive handled the distance over a sloppy main track in 1:17.71.

Away as the 8-5 wagering favorite, Okie Motive paid $5.40 to win, $3.40 to place and $2.20 to show. Adios Sweetie paid $5.80 to place and $3.40 to show. Okie Ride paid $4 to show.

A 4-year-old gelding by Lucky Lionel from the Husband mare Odette Marie, Okie Motive won his second career race from eight starts. Both of the wins have taken place this season at Remington Park. The winner’s share of $19,315 moves Okie Motive’s overall earnings to $64,036. He has now posted seven top three finishes from his eight attempts, missing in his career debut when he finished fourth.

The Remington Park Thoroughbred Season continues Saturday with the first race at 6:30pm. The $50,000 Oklahoma Stallion Stakes for 2-year-old Oklahoma-breds headline the Saturday night program. A pair of Stallion Stakes will be contested, one for fillies, the other for colts and geldings.
