SU CASA G CASA SCORCHES EARTH IN KIP DEVILLE TRIUMPH
OKLAHOMA CITY – The $50,000 Kip Deville Stakes began the Remington Park 2-year-old stakes series on Friday night with a superb and speedy performance by Su Casa G Casa winning by an easy 4-1/4 lengths.
Owned by Thomas Galvin of Dallas and trained by Bret Calhoun, Su Casa G Casa went right to the front and was never seriously threatened under jockey Carlos Gonzalez, the only rider he has known in his three-race career.
“Every time he has given me the best he can,” Gonzalez said. “The first time he was a little tired. The second time he really gave me something and I never even hit him and he won in 1:11. This time, the quarter-pole came, I asked him and he gave me more. I looked back and said ‘it’s time to relax.’ He does everything so easy. That’s what makes a good horse.”
The Louisiana-bred tested open company waters in his first stakes attempt and blistered six furlongs in 1:09.15 seconds, the fastest time for the distance through the first 31 days of the Remington Park season.
Su Casa G Casa handled the opening quarter-mile in :21.47 seconds and then hit the half-mile in :44.44. The 2-year-old colt broke his maiden against Louisiana-breds in his last start at Louisiana Downs in Bossier City, La. in early September, scoring by 12-1/2 lengths, earning his attempt in the Kip Deville.
Smiles Ahead made a slight rally into second but could never get close to the winner. Behold de Buy moved from his last-place position after the first quarter-mile to third after a wide run around the lone turn, finishing 8-1/2 lengths from the front.
The wagering favorite at 2-1 odds, Su Casa G Casa returned $6 to win, $4.40 to place and $3.60 to show. Smiles Ahead paid $12 to place and $7.60 to show. Behold de Buy paid $4.40 to show.
The Kip Deville provided the second win from three career attempts for Su Casa G Casa as he posted victory in his Remington Park debut. A son of During from the Known Fact mare Seda Fina, Su Casa G Casa earned $30,000 for his stakes score to push his young career total to $50,800.
The Kip Deville stakes is named after the all-time leading Oklahoma-bred money earner who began his career in 2005 at Remington Park, breaking his maiden status at first asking over the main track. He would develop into one of the sport’s premier turf runners, winning the Breeders’ Cup Mile in 2007 among other Grade 1 events.
Kip Deville passed earlier this year.
Remington Park Thoroughbred racing continues Saturday at 6:30pm, followed by the lone Sunday afternoon of the season, featuring the $400,000 Oklahoma Derby program that begins at 1:30pm.
