‘CORDERO ON CORDERO’ VIDEO SERIES LAUNCHED BY NYRA

ELMONT, N.Y. – Hall of Fame jockey Angel Cordero, Jr., offers his insights on the most famous moments in his sterling riding career in “Cordero on Cordero,” a new video series developed by The New York Racing Association, Inc. (NYRA) The first installment can be viewed on the official NYRA YouTube site at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GZVKt2aA9jg.

As a jockey Cordero won 7,057 races, including many of the most prestigious events in North America. In New York alone, Cordero won the 1976 Belmont Stakes, six editions of the Woodward (including five straight from 1981-1985), five runnings of the Suburban, and two renewals of the Whitney.

In addition, Cordero won the Jockey Club Gold Cup three times, but it’s his defeat in the 1978 running aboard Seattle Slew that’s the subject of the first episode of “Cordero on Cordero.” That year’s Gold Cup served as the second of two meetings between Triple Crown winners Seattle Slew and Affirmed, but it was Exceller who would come out on top that day. In the video, Cordero critiques his ride aboard Seattle Slew and explains why he’d like to have the opportunity to ride that race all over again.

NYRA will release additional episodes of “Cordero on Cordero” in the upcoming weeks, giving racing fans the opportunity to hear more of Cordero’s takes on some of the most historical events in racing history.
