FAIR GROUNDS DONATES $1,000, 1,957 POUNDS OF CANNED GOODS TO SECOND HARVEST FOOD BANK

NEW ORLEANS (Wednesday, December 10, 2014) – The community at Fair Grounds Race Course and Slots completed a successful collection effort to benefit Second Harvest Food Bank, amassing a total of 1,957 pounds of canned goods and non-perishable food items. Collection boxes were stationed at the race track as well as 10 other OTB locations throughout southeast Louisiana.

“We are proud to have been able to partner with Second Harvest Food Bank and help them towards reducing hunger in Louisiana,” said Fair Grounds Track President Tim Bryant. “Our employees, fans, and racing community answered the call in collecting 1,957 pounds of food for donation.”

In addition to the collection, Bryant on Tuesday presented Second Harvest with a check for $1,000 to aid their efforts.

Second Harvest Food Bank (www.no-hunger.org) is the largest anti-hunger network in South Louisiana with a mission to end hunger by providing food access, advocacy, education, and disaster response. According to Second Harvest, 1 in 6 households in Louisiana are at risk for hunger due to the rising costs of food, housing, and utilities. The organization collects 25 million pounds of food to serve 22.5 million meals to 210,000 individuals annually.
