TRAINER TOM AMOSS PLAYS PERFECT 4-FOR-4 HAND SATURDAY AT FAIR GROUNDS
NEW ORLEANS (Saturday, November 29, 2014) – It was New York Giants star wide receiver Odell Beckham, Jr. who kicked off a week of headlines for Newman High School graduates with his spectacular and physics-defying one-handed grab on Sunday against the Dallas Cowboys, but it was trainer Tom Amoss who capped off the big week for alums of the Uptown school.
Amoss saddled four winners from as many starters on Saturday’s ten-race Fair Grounds card, all with leading rider James Graham in the irons.
The duo first got on the scoreboard in the third race of the day when Maggi Moss’ class-dropping Salty’s Officer ($4.20) proved best in a conditioned claiming sprint, followed shortly thereafter by a thrilling win in a three-way photo finish in the sixth race as Graham guided Andrena Van Doren’s Sweet Daddy ($4.20) to a nose win on the turf in the day’s sixth race.
Amoss finished his perfect day with 10-length maiden claiming winner Sibling War ($5.60), the second win of the day for owner Maggi Moss in the seventh race on the card and struck again a short time later with Sum of the Parts ($5.80), the ninth race winner for Klaravich Stables and Willliam H. Lawrence.
Amoss also played a big part in a significant score for one lucky racing fan. His final three winners, Sweet Daddy, Sibling War and Sum of the Parts accounted for three-fifths of the winners in the Black Gold-5, a Pick-5 wager that pays out the carryover only to a single, unique winning ticket. Despite the strong backing of all three Amoss winners in the mutuel pools, a $124.80 upset by Andy Roo Roo in the Saturday finale allowed one ticket holder to cash for $17,532.
