LONGSHOTS AND FAVORITES SHINE IN ARKANSAS-BRED STAKES
OKLAHOMA CITY – Touchdown Arkansas scored a major upset in the $50,000 guaranteed Razorback Futurity when the 29-1 longshot gained the lead approaching the far turn and raced strongly to the wire to win by 1 ¼-lengths. The 2-year-old colt sired by Artie Schiller finished tenth at 28-1 in his only previous start for his owners Lewis E. Matthews Jr. & Frank Fletcher Jr. of Little Rock, Arkansas. Trained by W.T. Howard, and ridden by Bryan McNeil, Touchdown Arkansas earned $30,000 after covering the six-furlongs in a time of 1:11.19.
He returned $61.60 to win, $8.20 to place and $3.00 to show. Indygo Bo was the 1-9 favorite, but only made a mild late bid at the rail to finish second and pay $2.10 to place and again $2.10 to show. All Aboard challenged throughout from the outside but was 5-lengths behind the runner-up to finished third and pay $2.10 to show also.
Patchofbadweather earned a hard-fought victory for her connections and her backers, as the even-money favorite gutted-out a stretch run to win the $50,000 Guaranteed Lady Razorback Futurity, prevailing 1 ¾-lengths clear of her 8-5 rival, Auntcris’sshoes. Be My Caroline, the early pacesetter, tired to finish third at 9-1. The winner is owned by Flurry Racing Stables LLC of Hot Springs, Arkansas and trained and Karl Broberg. Glen Murphy urged her home in a final time of 1:12.61. She earned $30,000 for her valiant effort and paid $4.20 to win, $2.20 to place and $2.10 to show. Auntcris’sshoes paid $2.60 to place and $2.40 to show. Be My Caroline paid $3.80 to show.
