| Monday, June 2, 2014 Contact: Nailah Ellis Timberlake NTimberlake@nyrainc.com Transportation options for Belmont Stakes Day ELMONT, N.Y. - As racing fans converge on historic Belmont Park for a memorable day of racing on Belmont Stakes Day, The New York Racing Association, Inc. (NYRA) is committed to providing safe and convenient transportation options to and from the track. First race post time is 11:35 a.m. Belmont Stakes Day is Saturday, June 7, 2014, and NYRA has arranged shuttle service for fans in the surrounding communities. From 10 a.m. to 9 p.m., six courtesy buses will depart every 20 minutes from the Clubhouse entrance to accommodate residents of Floral Park and Elmont. The Floral Park Shuttle will travel from Belmont Park north on Plainfield Avenue, west on Woodbine Court, with a scheduled stop at Atlantic Avenue Extension and Tulip Avenue, adjacent to Lion's Park. It will then travel north on Tulip Avenue to Jericho Turnpike and head east, making a second stop at the MTA LI Bus stop in front of 90 Jericho Turnpike. The bus will continue east on Jericho Turnpike and make its third and final stop at the MTA LI Bus stop at Floral Park Place and Floral Terrace. The bus then returns to Belmont Park. The Elmont Shuttle will travel from Belmont Park south on Plainfield Avenue across Hempstead Turnpike and on to Elmont Road. It will then turn east at Dutch Broadway, then north on Mecham Avenue and across Hempstead Turnpike to continue on Covert Avenue. At Tulip Avenue, the bus turns west and returns to Belmont Park. The courtesy shuttles will stop at each of the MTA LI Bus stops along the route. At the end of the race day the shuttles will reverse their routes to accommodate the one-way traffic patterns. They will depart every 20 minutes, starting at 10 a.m. and continue to 9 p.m. They will drop off and pick up patrons at the front of the Clubhouse entrance. The MTA Long Island Rail Road has scheduled 18 extra trains for Belmont Stakes day from Penn Station, along with 18 additional trains from Atlantic Terminal in Brooklyn to Jamaica, where they can connect with the "Belmont Special." The LIRR will run trains back to Jamaica and Penn Station until 10 p.m. or later. Only Belmont Park tickets will be accepted for train service to and from Belmont Park. Other ticket types (CityTicket, Monthly, Weekly and Ten-Trip tickets) are not valid on Belmont Park trains. Please note that monthly and weekly ticket holders can use their commuter tickets for travel to and from Jamaica, but must purchase a Belmont Park ticket prior to boarding at Jamaica to cover the fare between Belmont Park and Jamaica. "Belmont Stakes Day is Belmont Park's biggest day of the year, and, with a Triple Crown possibility, a total of 13 outstanding races, and outstanding entertainment on offer, we expect it to be bigger than ever this year," said NYRA CEO and President Chris Kay. "We encourage our guests to take advantage of these public transportation options." Alcohol Policy The MTA Police will be enforcing a no-alcohol policy on trains to Belmont Park. Bags and coolers are subject to search prior to boarding Belmont Park trains at Penn Station and at Jamaica Station. No alcoholic beverages of any kind will be permitted to be brought into the Belmont Park facility. NYRA Security Policies New enhanced restrictions are in place for the 2014 Belmont Stakes: * No coolers * No back packs, duffle bags, briefcases or luggage * No purses larger than 12" in diameter * No umbrellas, non-folding or folding furniture * No cameras with detachable lenses, tripods, or lenses more than 6" in length, or camcorders * No glass containers or alcoholic beverages may be brought into the facility For a complete listing of banned items please call 718-641-4700 or visit NYRA.com. It is necessary to use a staircase to and from most train platforms at Belmont Station.
