Gotham Stakes Day to Include $113,159 Pick 6 Carryover

OZONE PARK, N.Y. – The Gotham Stakes Day card at Aqueduct Racetrack became even more enticing when Shaunna Alexandra posted a 31-1 upset in Friday’s finale, triggering a two-day Pick 6 carryover of $113,159.

Saturday’s Pick 6 sequence includes three graded stakes: the Grade 2, $200,000 Top Flight Handicap, the Grade 3, $200,000 Tom Fool Handicap, and the Grade 3, $400,000 Gotham.

The Gotham, a 1 1/16-mile race for 3-year-olds, serves as Aqueduct’s primary prep race for the Grade 1 Wood Memorial on April 6. The Gotham winner will be awarded 50 points under the new “Road to the Kentucky Derby” point system, virtually guaranteeing him a berth in the starting gate for the May 4 Run for the Roses at Churchill Downs.

Overanalyze, the 2012 Grade 2 Futurity and Grade 2 Remsen winner, will depart from post position 12 in the Gotham as the 5-2 morning-line favorite. Vyjack, the Grade 2 Jerome winner, is the 3-1 morning-line second choice.

The Top Flight attracted eight entries, with Summer Applause serving as the 5-2 morning-line favorite. Comma to the Top, third in last Saturday’s Grade 2 San Carlos, was tabbed as the 3-1

favorite on the morning line for the Tom Fool and is slated to take on nine opponents.

With 11 races on Saturday’s card, the Pick 6 will begin with race 6, which has a scheduled post time of 3:10 p.m.

Those who wish to play the Pick 6 can place their bets at Aqueduct or the Belmont Café, or through NYRA Rewards, which offers Internet, On-Track, Phone, and Mobile wagering.
