Undefeated Two-Year-Old Filly So Many Ways Bows out of
World Championship Contention
September 26, 2012 – Armonk, NY – Undefeated 2-year-old filly So Many Ways will not travel to California to run in the $2 million Breeders' Cup Juvenile Fillies at the 2012 World Championships, it was announced today.
"I have struggled with the decision of whether or not we should push her as she continues to grow and mature for the thrill of running in the Breeders' Cup," said owner Maggi Moss. "After great deliberation, I have weighed what is in her best interest, versus my chance to compete at Santa Anita and decided it is simply pushing her too hard."
Undefeated in three starts, the Sightseeing-Happy Scene filly broke her maiden running 4 1/2 furlongs on the dirt at Parx Racing June 9. She came back in spectacular form, winning the grade III $150,000 Schuylerville Stakes at Saratoga Race Course July 20. The filly's third win came in the prestigious grade I $300,000 Spinaway at Saratoga, September 2. Trained by Anthony Dutrow, the filly has bankrolled $307,800 for her efforts.
"One of the great things this filly did was bring me together with Tony and Kim Dutrow," continued Moss. "They have done an amazing job with her. I think we are doing the right thing for the filly. She's already given me the thrill of a lifetime and I look forward to what I hope is a great three-year-old campaign with her next year."
Moss, an accomplished equestrian who is a three time champion at Madison Square Garden, has been among the top 10 owners in North America in races won and purses earned for the past six years. In 2006 she became the first woman in the country since 1945 to lead the nation in wins. Since 2000 she has amassed over 6,000 victories, earning more than $34 million in purses. She is a former prosecutor in her home state of Iowa, where she was a high-profile defense attorney for many years. She currently manages her own horse operation, Moss Equestrian, and is active in rescue and aftercare efforts for retired racehorses.
So Many Ways will be turned out at Anthony Dutrow's barn at Fair Hills Training Center in Elkton, MD. She will join Dutrow at Palm Meadows Training Center this winter, where she will resume training for a possible next start at the Gulfstream Park winter meet.
