DARRELL, EVELYN YATES EARN SEPTEMBER’S ARLINGTON OWNERS AWARD

The husband-wife ownership tandem of Darrell and Evelyn Yates will be recognized as Arlington’s Owner of the Month for September on Friday, based on statistics compiled through September’s first three weeks.

Chicago’s showcase northwest suburban oval brings down the curtain on its 2012 season on the last day of the month this Sunday.

Darrell and Evelyn Yates, longtime clients of Arlington’s perennial leading trainer Wayne Catalano, had their purple and white silks posed in the winner’s circle three times from five horses sent to the post during the abbreviated time period allotted for Arlington’s September statistics.

The association between Yates and Catalano first came to national recognition when their Cryptoclearance colt Crypto Star won the 1997 Louisiana Derby, went on to capture the Arkansas Derby one month later and then finished fifth in that spring’s Kentucky Derby.

In 2009, the Yates’ Dixie Band won the Grade III Arlington-Washington Futurity and most recently the Bathalto, Illinois residents saw their juvenile filly La Song finish second in the Grade III Arlington-Washington Lassie on September 8.

ROGER BRUEGGEMANN TABBED AS ARLINGTON’S TRAINER OF SEPTEMBER

Veteran Chicago-based trainer Roger Brueggemann will be awarded Trainer of the Month honors for September this Friday based on his eight trips to the winner’s circle from 25 horses saddled during the abbreviated time period allotted for September statistics.

The 66-year-old native of Leesville, Louisiana also recorded an in-the-money ratio of 60 percent during the first three weeks of September.

Brueggemann, enjoying the best Arlington season of his career, is currently holding down fourth position in Arlington’s trainer standings based largely on his association with the Midwest Thoroughbreds operation of Richard and Karen Papiese.  That couple is far in front as Arlington’s leading owners this season.

ROSEMARY HOMEISTER JR. NAMED SEPTEMBER’S JOCKEY OF THE MONTH

Jockey Rosemary Homeister Jr., has been named as Arlington’s Jockey of the Month for September based her statistics recorded during the first three weeks of the month.

Arlington’s 2012 season comes to a close on September 30.

Homeister, 40, a native of Hollywood, Florida, who won an Eclipse Award as North America’s outstanding Apprentice Jockey in 1992, is already Thoroughbred racing’s runner-up leading female rider of all time.  However, she brought her tack to Arlington for the first time this summer and will end the current session on Sunday in third position in the local 2012 jockey standings.  She passed the 2,500 career-win milestone earlier this summer.

Her abbreviated September statistics showed her winning 13 races from 85 mounts during the allotted time frame with purse earnings of $430,625.

Following Arlington’s season, Homeister plans on her first winter campaign at Oaklawn Park in Hot Springs, Arkansas, before returning to Arlington for a second time when its 2013 meet begins on May 3.
