ARLINGTON'S NINTH RACE DECLARED NO CONTEST

ARLINGTON HEIGHTS, Ill. (Sept. 15, 2012) – Saturday's ninth race at Arlington Park was declared no contest by the stewards when several sections of the turf rail came apart and fell onto the course in front of the field, causing interference to all or most of the horses in the one-mile turf race.

According to stewards Joe Lindeman, Steve Morgan and Pete Kosiba Jr.: "It appeared there was a very small gap in the turf rail on the far turn," said stewards A horse brushed the rail at that exact spot that caused several sections of the rail to come apart, landing on the course.  Several horses either had to jump or otherwise try to avoid the rail and as a result we had to declare the race a no contest."

All win, place, show, exacta, trifecta and superfecta bets were refunded as was the Daily Double that started with race 9.  All other multi-race wagers involving the ninth race, including the Pick 3 that started with race 9, became an "all" for that race and the $2 Daily Double (10-ALL) paid $21.40, the $1 Pick 3 (5-10-ALL) $95.30 and the 10-cent Pick 9, which ended with race 9, paid on 6 of 9 for $33.93.  There will be a Pick 9 carryover pool of $8,249 into Sunday's card.
