CO-FEATURE STAKES EVENTS FOR OKLAHOMA-BREDS FRIDAY, OKLAHOMA DERBY WEEK APPROACHES
OKLAHOMA CITY – The week before that of the Oklahoma Derby features a pair of Oklahoma-bred stakes events on Friday night. The action will begin nightly at 6:30pm Wednesday thru Saturday this week.
The $50,000 Tishomingo Stakes and the $50,000 Te Ata Stakes have the spotlight on Friday night, both for Oklahoma-breds at seven furlongs. The Tishomingo is for 3-year-old colts & geldings with the Te Ata for 3-year-old fillies. Both events are expected to serve as key races for many getting set to compete in the Oklahoma Classics night of state-bred stakes racing in October.
Remington Park’s Thoroughbred Season continues to move closer to the 24th running of the Oklahoma Derby on Sunday, Sept. 30. The $400,000 Oklahoma Derby leads a stakes-race laden card that afternoon that will be worth well over $1 million. The special Sunday afternoon of racing begins at 1:30pm on Sept. 30.
Leading Horsemen
The Remington Park Thoroughbred reaches the one-third mark this week. The battle for the top of the jockey standings remains strong with a title-favorite yet to emerge.
Cliff Berry as the lead with 20 wins while Luis Quinonez is next with 19. Bryan McNeil is a strong third with 16 wins.
Trainer Steve Asmussen will be inducted into the Oklahoma Horse Racing Hall of Fame on Sept. 26. Going into this week of racing, Asmussen has 15 wins and is the only trainer with double-digit wins at this point in the season.
Owner Danny Caldwell of Poteau, Okla. leads the standings with six wins. Black Hawk Stable of Elk City, Okla. and Doyle Williams of Jenks, Okla. are tied in second with four wins.
Bricktown Brewery Primetime Football
The Pro Football season is here and the Bricktown Brewery on the Casino floor is ready for the main primetime games on Sundays and Mondays. The games will be displayed on the Coors Light Superscreen with Bricktown Brewery pints of craft beer on special for just $1.50. In addition, the delicious appetizers are available for $2 off (dine-in only). The schedule this week has New England at Baltimore on Sunday with Green Bay at Seattle on Monday.
Live music is featured in the casino on Thursday, Friday and Saturday nights. This week Smokehouse plays on Thursday at 7pm and again at 9pm on Friday. Saturday night, Urban Addiction takes the Wild Rush Stage at 9pm.
