JOCKEY COHEN TO RETURN ON OPENING DAY AT BELMONT PARK

OZONE PARK, N.Y. – Jockey David Cohen, currently sidelined with a stress fracture in his right leg, is expected to resume race riding on April 29, opening day of the 2011 Belmont Park spring/summer meet.

According to his agent, Bill Castle, Cohen is nursing an injury he suffered when he was unseated after his mount, Talented Princess, stumbled at the start of Aqueduct Racetrack’s first race on March 10.

Cohen resumed riding on March 19 and finished the inner track meet in second place with 82 wins.

On Friday, April 8, Cohen was unseated by A Wink and a Smile prior to the second race, although that did not re-aggravate the original injury, according to Castle.

After winning with one of his eight mounts on Saturday, April 9, Cohen decided to take off the remainder of Aqueduct’s spring meet. Despite missing all of Sunday’s action, Cohen remained in third place prior to today’s races.

Cohen, the second leading rider on The New York Racing Association (NYRA) circuit in 2010, has won 80 races in New York so far in 2011, trailing only Ramon Dominguez, who has 96 victories to date.
