LONGSHOT WHOOSHOOTOO WINS 3RD CONSECUTIVE RACE IN REMINGTON DEBUT
OKLAHOMA CITY – After winning her last two races at Evangeline Downs in Louisiana last month, Whooshootoo traveled to Remington Park for Friday’s $29,500 optional allowance feature to put her streak on the line. Using her trademark early turn of foot, the 3-year-old filly led throughout the six furlongs, holding on at the end to score by a slim nose.
Whooshootoo ran her winning streak to three in a row for owners Dexsan Stables of Lottie, La. Trained by Paul Gary and ridden to victory by Luis Quinonez, Whooshootoo pulled away to a three-length lead in the stretch before having to hold off a serious late rally by Justasassycat to win in a photo-finish. She covered the distance in 1:09.96.
Dismissed at 17-1 odds by the wagering public, Whooshootoo paid $37 to win, $13.40 to place and $6.60 to show. Justasassycat returned $6.80 to place and $4.80 to show. Halo’s Reflection was along for third and paid $9.20 to show after winning a photo for third over Auntgrace who settled for fourth.
The exacta (Nos. 6-5) paid $253 with the quinella (Nos. 5-6) paying $125.80. The trifecta (Nos. 6-5-1) paid $2,310.80 with the superfecta (Nos. 6-5-1-8) returning $6,944.60.
A Louisiana-bred daughter of Safe Prospect from the Katowice mare Lightningbacktoo, Whooshootoo won her fourth career race from 10 starts while winning in her Remington Park debut. She earned $17,565 for the win over seven other fillies and mares to push her career total to $99,805.
Jockey Cliff Berry won three races Friday to move back into a tie atop the jockey standings. Berry’s triple came aboard Right Squall ($5.60 to win) in the third race, Quiet Glory ($2.40) in race six and Gleaming ($3.40) in the 10th. His triple gives him 19 wins for the season to tie him with Bryan McNeil for the lead.
