AEGEUS SPRINGS 91-1 UPSET IN FINALE

LAUREL, MD. 9-16-10---Vivian Rail’s longshot Aegeus balked and resisted jockey Alberto Delgado much of the way but he came to life in deep stretch, diving between horses to win today’s ninth race on the turf at Laurel Park at odds of 91-1.

Beating $25,000 maiden claimers in just his second start, the 4-year-old performed completely opposite from his debut, when he broke poorly and was outrun at today’s distance over today’s surface. Today was another day and his surprise coming out party rewarded his few backers with a $185.40 win mutuel. The son of Partner’s Hero also paid $57.20 to place and $24.20 to show.

Trained by Holly Robinson, Aegeus also topped a $930.60 exacta with post time favorite Wohali and was the driving force behind a $3,560.20 trifecta, with Roi d’Etoiles on the bottom.

Delgado, the 1982 Eclipse Award winning apprentice jockey, is no stranger to surprise winners on the turf. In 2002, he guided 121-1 shot Crème D’Argent to a score on the Pimlico Race Course grass. The $245.20 win payout was the highest in Maryland that year.
