IMPRESSIVE TURF SPRINT SCORE FOR READY CHARM, McNEIL TAKES RIDER LEAD

OKLAHOMA CITY – Ready Charm had never been out of the money in her career when racing five furlongs. She kept that record in tact Thursday night at Remington Park in the $28,500 allowance feature at five furlongs over the turf, pulling away to an easy five-length win.

Owned by Melissa Cantacuzene of Aldie, Va. and trained by Ralph Irwin, Ready Charm was handled by Luis Quinonez as she rolled to the front of the field of 10 while flying through the lone turn over the firm course. She was on a clear lead in the stretch and increased her advantage as she powered to the finish in :56.51 seconds.

The Smart Look made a late rally but did not have enough to catch Ready Charm, settling for second. Chili set the early pace and was game in holding third position.

Ready Charm, the wagering favorite at 4-5 odds, paid $3.80 to win, $2.40 to place and $2.20 to show. The Smart Look returned $3.60 to place and $3 to show. Chili paid $3.60 to show.

The win was the fourth from 11 career starts for Ready Charm, a Virginia-bred daughter of More Than Ready from the Cape Town mare Ruler’s Charm. She won for the first time at Remington Park in two attempts here this season, earning $16,875 for the win. Her lifetime bankroll has now reached $49,771.

Jockey Bryan McNeil won two races Thursday with Cat’s Poppet ($11.20 to win) in the sixth race and Valsboat ($12.40) in the seventh. The riding double moves him to the lead in the jockey standings with 18 victories, two better than Cliff Berry in second-place with 16.
