FIRST REMINGTON PARK TRY A WINNING ONE FOR GO TIGER JACK, BERRY WINS THREE

OKLAHOMA CITY – Go Tiger Jack became the latest in a long line of horses making their Remington Park debuts this season to post victory in their initial attempt in Oklahoma. The 3-year-old gelding won Thursday’s $29,440 allowance feature over eight rivals going one mile.

Owned by Melissa Cantacuzene of Aldie, Va. and trained by Ralph Irwin, Go Tiger Jack was handled by Cliff Berry who posted his third win of the evening. The featured event was originally scheduled for the turf course but was moved to the fast main track after soaking rains from Tropical Storm Hermine on Wednesday night had their affect.

Go Tiger Jack was reserved in the middle of the pack for the first half-mile of the race, allowing Overthehump to run detached from the field, ahead by as much as five lengths during the first half-mile while setting fractions of :23.13 for the opening quarter-mile and :46.15 for a half-mile. Berry had Go Tiger Jack on the move around the final turn to put him in position as the field turned for home. He glided past the tiring Overthehump in the stretch before drawing off to win by four lengths in 1:37.41.

The 2-1 wagering favorite, Go Tiger Jack paid $6 to win, $4.60 to place and $3.60 to show. Overthehump held second and paid $10.40 to place and $6.80 to show. Ransom Roberto was a rallying third, just a neck behind Overthehump, paying $8.60 to show.

The win was the second from 14 career attempts for Go Tiger Jack, a New York-bred by Victory Gallop from the Unaccounted For mare Hussy. He earned $16,920 for the effort to push his career bankroll to $51,360.

Berry began his riding triple with triumphs aboard Queen Maria ($8.80 to win) in the second race and Pleasuremaghnet ($5.20) in the fifth race. The hat trick moves Berry to 14 wins for the season, three ahead of the trio of Aaron Gryder, Bryan McNeil and Alex Birzer who are tied for second with 11 each.

Racing continues Friday evening with nine races at 6:30pm. The normal weekly racing schedule for the Thoroughbred Season is Wednesday thru Saturday.

Remington Park is open daily at 10am for casino gaming and simulcast racing. The 22nd Oklahoma Derby will be contested on Sunday, Oct. 10. The Thoroughbred Season concludes Dec. 11.
