DARK RULER RUNS DOWN EDPLICIT FOR CLOSE VICTORY
OKLAHOMA CITY – Dark Ruler won a spirited stretch battle with Edplicit to prevail by a head in Wednesday’s $29,440 allowance feature at Remington Park.
Owned by Thunderhead Farms of De Moines, Iowa and trained by Kelly Von Hemel, Dark Ruler rallied from mid-pack in the field of eight to challenge the pace-setting Edplicit in the 1 mile-70 yard event. Under Glen Murphy, Dark Ruler wore down Edplicit who was attempting to win his third-consecutive race of the season.
A 3-year-old Kentucky-bred colt, Dark Ruler managed to get up to win in the final strides, handling the distance in 1:42.76 over a fast track.
Dark Ruler was 4-1 in the wagering and paid $11 to win, $7 to place and $3.60 to show. Edplicit returned $3.80 to place and $3.60 to show as the beaten 2-1 betting favorite. Some Quick was third and paid $5.40 to show.
The win was the second from 11 attempts for Dark Ruler, a colt by Roman Ruler from the Dynaformer mare Dynamic Lady. It was his first victory from two attempts at Remington Park. The victory was worth $16,965, moving Dark Ruler’s lifetime earnings to $50,102.
