SARATOGA STAYS ALIVE AFTER HOURS AT “THE POST”

Newly christened dining area highlighted by racing celebrity meet-ups, daily specials and prizes

SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. – Saratoga Race Course remains the summer place to be long after the day’s races have concluded as fans are now welcome to cap off their outing with daily special offerings at The Post.

Comprised of the track’s three newest culinary players – Shake Shack, Blue Smoke & The Paddock Bar – The Post is adorned by two matching 10-foot poles at the entrance to Saratoga’s newest hospitality area that call to mind the track poles traditionally positioned at the finish line.

The Post is a tribute to two classic race course terms - the “Call to the Post,” which signals all horses to make their way to the starting gate minutes before the start of a race; and the “Post Parade,” which is the horses’ procession in front of the grandstand before a race.

“In racing lore, ‘The Post’ is known as where it all begins. At Saratoga, The Post will be where it all ends as well,” said Union Square Hospitality Group CEO and Restaurateur Danny Meyer. “Shake Shack, Blue Smoke and The Paddock Bar are spirited places for post-racing gatherings – and they’re all reasons to head to The Post as we drink in the summer season at Saratoga.”

Saratoga fans are encouraged to gather at The Post after hours to celebrate their winnings at The Paddock Bar. This newly constructed, circular wooden bar adjacent to The Paddock serves up a collection of innovative and classic cocktails, beer and wine, and is open until 9:00 PM Friday and Saturday evenings throughout the 2010 meet.

The Paddock Bar will complement its offerings with daily drink specials from 5 to 6:30 PM, including $4 drafts.

Thoroughbred enthusiasts can belly up to the bar alongside some of the industry’s most popular figures with weekly celebrity meet-ups Thursday evenings at The Paddock Bar. Saratoga staple Sammy the Bugler will kick-off Thoroughbred Thursdays on Thursday, August 12, followed by racing analyst and Talking Horses host Andy Serling on August 19. Visit www.nyra.com to check out the weekly schedule of celebrity guests.

In addition to the after-hours fun, racing fans will have two chances a day to win special Blue Smoke and Shake Shack dining packages (think mouthwatering pulled pork sandwiches and delicious ShackBurgers). Two track guests a day will be randomly selected; winners announced on the infield video boards.

Operated by Union Square Events, Shake Shack, Blue Smoke and The Paddock Bar are the result of a multi-year partnership between the New York Racing Association (NYRA) and celebrated restaurateur Danny Meyer’s Union Square Hospitality Group (USHG) to create a unique culinary experience at historic Saratoga Race Course. The partnership reflects Union Square Events recent growth, diversification and evolution from a single-focus catering operation to one that also specializes in producing large scale events and premium culinary solutions for sports and cultural institutions. Union Square Events (formerly Hudson Yards Catering) has earned acclaim as an innovative hospitality leader for its role in creating and operating USHG’s culinary offerings at The New York Mets’ Citi Field, and also for Public Fare, its open-air cafe at the Public Theater at The Delacorte in Central Park.
