 HONORABLE MISS (G2) QUOTES

Ronny Werner, winning trainer of Secret Gypsy (No. 4): “Her races and her confidence have been getting better. Sometimes it’s hard to get fillies back – she’s had some problems in the past and we were working through that, mentally and physically. She’s done well here. I wish it was a longer meet! She’s changed her style of running a little bit this year. She’s starting to sit off a little bit more and relax more, and that just comes with age. Older and wiser. I’d love to run her in the Ballerina [Grade 1, August 28], but it might be a little quick. We’ll just have to see.”

Jamie Theriot, winning jockey aboard Secret Gypsy (No. 4): “I knew my filly would be in a good place but when [Warbling] blew the break, it put me up there. I just was, ‘Well, I’m going to stay here’. From there, it was just a matter of time because I was in a stalking position and let her run through her lane. She finished very well. Her last couple of races, she really came around. I think she’s back to the filly she was when she first started.  I felt very comfortable and confident throughout that whole race. The No. 1 [One Smokin’ Lady] was riding in front of me and I looked behind just to see where the others were. I just had a handful of horse. I never doubted her.”

Todd Pletcher, trainer of runner-up Hour Glass (No. 3): “I was very pleased with her  today. She’s very, very honest and tries hard every time, and this was another good performance. She had a good trip. The complexion of the race changed a little bit when Warbling didn’t break well, but we were still able to sit a good trip. Not sure what the future plans will be, but we’ll probably pass on the Ballerina [August 28] and wait on a stake back at Belmont.”

David Cohen, jockey aboard runner-up Hour Glass (No. 3): “She ran very well. The No. 2 horse [Warbling] didn't break good. That kind of hurt, in my mind, the pace that we would have had up there. But she ran her heart out. She's a real tough filly. She could have thrown in the towel and finished third. She fought it out and didn't let that horse [Warbling] get by her in the lane.”

Eddie Kenneally, trainer of beaten favorite and third-place finisher Warbling (No. 2): “For whatever reason, she just didn’t break today. She ran a really big race after that, and Julien [Leparoux] rode her fine – it was nobody’s fault. She kind of moved as they opened the gate and she was caught with one foot in the air and didn’t get away real sharp. She’s fine, though.”

Julien Leparoux, jockey aboard beaten favorite and third-place finisher Warbling (No. 2): “She was moving when the gates opened.”
