EVAN SHIPMAN (NYB) QUOTES

Rick Schosberg, winning trainer of favored Giant Moon (No. 5): “With three jumps to go, I thought we were going to get third, beaten two noses. It was a tough trip, going wide on both turns, but he showed his class. We’re thrilled with it. It was a dynamite performance. We really want to bask in this one before we think about what’s next. There’s a chance he could run again at Saratoga towards the end of the met, or else very early in the meet at Belmont Park.”

Edgar Prado, winning jockey aboard favored Giant Moon (No. 5): “He broke well from the gate, he just got outrun in the early part of the race. I was going to tuck inside, but I saw some other horses inside, so I stayed where I was. He started moving around the far turn, but he really picked it up and kept trying when he saw the other horses at the end. He's a game horse and he will fight hard when he sees another horse.”

Trainer H. Graham Motion, trainer of runner-up Icabad Crane (No. 7): “He runs very well fresh. In his last race I thought he might have gone over the top, so we freshened him with the idea of running him here. To get beat in a stakes in Saratoga like that is always tough. We’re going to keep him in the New York-bred stakes. They’re very competitive and are good spots for him.”

Julien Leparoux, jockey aboard runner-up Icabad Crane (No. 7): “He had a good trip, we were inside and saved ground. When the other horse came, he fought back. He ran a good race.”
