RETURN OF BEAU RAVELLE, LUIS Q WINS FOUR
OKLAHOMA CITY – The long awaited return of Beau Ravelle came Wednesday night at Remington Park as the talented 2-year-old filly kept her record perfect in winning her second career attempt.
Owned by the large Shawnee, Okla. partnership of Rusty Taylor, Elaine Holliday, Margaret Davis, Jerry Davis and Mike Walker, Beau Ravelle rolled to an easy maiden-breaking win in her career debut in September. Under jockey Belen Quinonez, she posted a winning margin of 8-1/2 lengths with plenty in reserve after rallying from off the pace. The means leading to victory were somewhat different in her second start.
Staying at the sprint distance of six furlongs, Beau Ravelle quickly moved to the front and joined Heykittykittykitty in a battle for the lead that would last until the final furlong. They moved the first quarter-mile in :22.16 and the half-mile in :44.85. Once to the stretch, the speedy pair had pulled clear of all rivals with the nearest rival six lengths behind.
Beau Ravelle was encouraged in mid-stretch for the first time and managed to pull away from Heykittykittykitty who had been working to put her rival away since leaving the turn. Beau Ravelle crossed the finish 3-1/2 lengths clear in 1:10.69 over the fast track.
Trained by Scott Young, Beau Ravelle was the heavy 1-9 wagering favorite, paying $2.10 to win, to place and to show. Heykittykittykitty paid $4.20 to place and $3.60 to show. Racing Holiday rallied for third, 12-1/4 lengths behind the winner, paying $6.20 to show.
A Kentucky-bred by Tiz Wonderful from the Gone West mare Dixiana Delight, Beau Ravelle picked up $17,898 to run her earnings through two races to $34,341.
Luis Quinonez, the season’s leading rider, expanded his lead in the standings by racking up four wins Wednesday. His quadruple began with Try To Catch Her ($3 to win) in the opening race and continued in the third event with Glamour Galore ($10). Questlie ($11.40) was his third win of the night in the sixth race with Sista Baby Girl ($21.20) the fourth score in race eight.
“Luis Q” now has 51 wins for the season, four ahead of Ramon Vazquez (47).
