CLEAN TRIP AND RALLY FOR LADY HADDASSAH, ZARBY’S HOME WINS 20TH RACE

OKLAHOMA CITY – Older fillies and mares were featured Thursday at Remington Park in an open company turf allowance worth $40,000 at 1-1/16 miles. Lady Haddassah avoided traffic congestion by staying wide of rivals for the final six furlongs of the race, giving her room to advance off the final turn and on to a two-length victory.

Owned by Al and Bill Ulwelling of Elk River, Minn. and trained by Michael Biehler, Lady Haddassah was ridden by Ramon Vazquez. The 4-year-old filly was guided along a wide path once the field of eight made the backstretch, in order to avoid any and all traffic developing closer to the rail. She moved four-wide coming off the last turn to the stretch and had no hindrance advancing to the lead with a furlong left.

Once on the front, Lady Hadassah drew away to score, crossing the finish in 1:44.29 over the firm going. Manyriverstocross moved into second in the stretch and held off a charge through traffic by Cream Of Soup who was third.

Away at 9-2 odds, Lady Haddassah paid $11.60 to win, $5 to place and $2.80 to show. Manyriverstocross paid $6.80 to place and $5 to show. Cream Of Soup returned $4.20 to show. Fast Resource was the beaten 5-2 wagering favorite, finishing fifth.

A Florida-bred by Whywhywhy from the Storm Boot mare Baby Lexi, Lady Haddassah won her eighth career race from 20 attempts and her first in two tries at Remington Park. The winner’s check of $23,847 runs her overall earnings to $156,883.

Earlier in the Thursday program, veteran 9-year-old gelding Zarby’s Home won his 20th career race, going to the front in a six-furlong sprint and leading throughout to score by three-quarters of a length. It was his fourth win in his last five starts and his second straight this season at Remington Park.

Zarby’s Home started the race for Double C Racing of Hennessey, Okla. and trainer Michael Franklin but was claimed for the price of $5,000 by trainer Rick Bogdanovich for owner William Floyd.

The 25th Anniversary Season continues Friday and Saturday, Nov. 15-16 at Remington Park with the first race nightly at 7pm.
