CONSISTENT WHAT THE WORLD CONTINUES STREAK, BIRZER WINS 3
OKLAHOMA CITY – What The World has missed a top-three finish only once in 11 career racing attempts. The ultra-consistent 4-year-old continued his in-the-money ways with his second straight win of the season (his third in his last four attempts at Remington Park), with a rousing victory Wednesday night.
A $32,025 allowance event at 1 mile-70 yards was the latest stage for What The World, owned by Cowboy Stables of Clinton, Okla. and trained by C.R. Trout. The gelding used a wide move off the final turn under jockey Lindey Wade, rolling past rivals from last to first down the middle of the stretch. What The World drew away to an easy 3-1/4 length score in 1:42.14 over the fast track.
Overlooked slightly in the wagering at 9-1 odds, What The World paid $ 20.20 to win, $7.80 to place and $5.60 to show. Avis E. set the pace and nearly held the advantage throughout before settling for second while paying $7.40 to place and $6 to show. Going Back To Cali was along for third to return $8 to show. Pedestrian was the beaten even-money wagering favorite, finishing sixth.
A Kentucky-bred by Toccet from the Dixieland Band mare Fast Betty, What The World has won four of his 11 starts, all at Remington Park, with three this season. The winner’s check of $17,847 bumps his overall bankroll to $50,299.
Jockey Alex Birzer posted a riding triple Wednesday, to move into a second-place tie in the rider standings. Birzer bookended the card with a win in the opening race aboard Big Z at 62-1 odds that paid $126.60 to win. He also closed the racing program with a triumph on I Need A Baleout in the final race, paying $9 to win. In between, Birzer won on American Sugar ($6.60) in the fifth race.
The hat trick gives Birzer 50 wins for the season, tying him with Ramon Vazquez for second in the standings behind Luis Quinonez who leads with 52.
The 25th Anniversary Season continues Thursday thru Saturday, Nov. 21-23 with racing nightly at 7pm. The $50,000 Silver Goblin Stakes, for Oklahoma-breds, is the featured race of the week. The Silver Goblin will be contested Friday night at 6-1/2 furlongs.
Open daily at 10:30am for casino gaming and simulcast racing, Remington Park also features the Bricktown Brewery on the casino floor. Admission, general parking and valet parking are always free at Remington Park, home of the $250,000 Springboard Mile for 2-year-olds, to be run on December 15, 2013.
