Whitney Invitational Handicap Winner Cross Traffic Sustains Minor Shin Injury
Will Ship to GoldMark Farm for Evaluation
October 2, 2013 – Elmont, NY - GoldMark Farm's G1 Whitney Invitational Handicap winner, Cross Traffic sustained a minor shin injury when the track broke out from underneath him at the start of the G1 Jockey Club Gold Cup at Belmont Park Saturday.
"It is very unfortunate for this to happen at this time of the year because this will prevent him from competing in the G1 Breeder's Cup Classic," said Todd Quast, GoldMark Farm's General Manager. "We will bring him back to GoldMark to evaluate him and based on those findings make decisions regarding his future."
Cross Traffic (Unbridled's Song – Stop Traffic, by Cure the Blues) developed into a top handicap horse in a relatively short period of time. Starting his career at Gulf Stream Park on January 24, 2013 he reeled off two impressive victories before tackling graded stakes company in only his third start. In the G3 Westchester Stake he lost by a short head to Belmont specialist Flat Out in a time of 132 4/5 which is only 3/5 of a second off the world record and earned a 1 ½ Ragozin number.
Cross Traffic followed that effort with the narrowest of defeats in the stallion making G1 Metropolitan Handicap after doing all the hard work on the front end. Next came the G1 Whitney Invitational Handicap which was his first time around two turns and it was a winning one, defeating the one two finishers of the 2012 Breeder's Cup Classic, Fort Larned and Mucho Macho Man, and the 2012 Travers winner Alpha. Cross Traffic has a record of 3 wins and 2 seconds from six starts with 4 triple digit Beyer numbers with the largest being a 116.
