VASQUEZ WINS THREE, GAINS GROUND IN RIDER STANDINGS
OKLAHOMA CITY – The already contentious jockey race became even more interesting after Saturday racing at Remington Park. Jockey Ramon Vasquez won three races on the card, gaining on the trio of Luis Quinonez, Cliff Berry and Alex Birzer.
Vasquez won with Sons Of Samcro ($10.60 to win) in race five, followed by Heart Racer ($5.60) in the seventh race and Omnitap ($4.80) in the ninth. The hat trick gives Vasquez 21 wins for the season and puts him within six victories of the three jockeys who have been alternating time atop the standings.
Quinonez, Berry and Birzer each won a single race on Saturday night to ensure their close battle for the lead continues into next week’s racing. Quinonez and Berry are currently tied for the top spot with 27 wins while Birzer is just one behind with 26 wins. The riding triple by Vazquez moves him into striking distance of the leaders after 30 dates of racing with 37 more dates left in the season.
Remington Park’s 25th Anniversary Season continues Wednesday thru Saturday, Oct. 9-12 with the first race nightly at 7pm. The $1,000,000 Oklahoma Classics night of racing is fast approaching as the program of divisional stakes racing for Oklahoma-breds falls on Friday, Oct. 18.
