VALID MESSAGE RUNS WIN STREAK TO THREE, STAYS PERFECT THIS SEASON AT REMINGTON PARK

OKLAHOMA CITY- A tough group of turf veterans battled over 1-1/8 miles in a solid $17,500 starter allowance on Saturday in the Remington Park opener. Valid Message rallied from the back to win his third straight race and fifth in his last six attempts.

Owned by Patricia Blackmon of Gordon, Texas and trained by Michael Franklin, Valid Message was ridden by Chris Landeros. The 7-year-old sat between four and five lengths back through the first six furlongs of the race before starting his move going to the final turn. In the stretch, Valid Message wore down the pacesetting Waronthehomefront, taking the lead in the final furlong to score by a half-length in 1:50.86 over the firm course.

Waronthehomefront held second while the late-running Little Wagon moved past rivals to gain third, 2-1/2 lengths behind the winner.

The 8-5 wagering favorite, Valid Message paid $5.40 to win, $3 to place and $2.10 to show. Waronthehomefront paid $4.20 to place and $3 to show. Little Wagon returned $2.60 to show.

A Texas-bred son of Valid Expectations from the Wolf Power (SAF) mare Templemartin, Valid Message won his 17th career race from 56 starts. The win was his sixth overall at Remington Park while earning another $10,398 to roll his total money to $291,712.

The Remington Park jockey standings continue to resemble a traffic jam at the top. A group of four riders are alternating positions for the lead through the first 38 race dates of the season. After Saturday’s races, Luis Quinonez holds the top spot with 36 wins. Alex Birzer, Cliff Berry and Ramon Vazquez each won two races Saturday; all are within striking distance of the top spot. Birzer is second with 35 wins, Barry third with 34 and Vazquez is fourth with 33.

Berry is Remington Park’s all-time leading jockey and a winner of 15 riding titles including the last three in a row. Quinonez has won one Remington Park title (2008) while Birzer and Vazquez are both seeking their first local championship.

Remington Park’s 25th Anniversary Season of Thoroughbred racing continues Wednesday thru Saturday, Oct. 23-26 with the first race nightly at 7pm. The $50,000 E.L. Gaylord Memorial Stakes for 2-year-old fillies is the featured event of the week, taking place Friday night.

Open daily at 10:30am for casino gaming and simulcast racing, Remington Park also features the Bricktown Brewery on the casino floor. Admission, general parking and valet parking are always free at Remington Park, home of the $250,000 Springboard Mile for 2-year-olds, to be run on December 15, 2013.
