NO SPIN SAVES GROUND, USES RAIL TRIP FOR TURF SCORE

OKLAHOMA CITY – No Spin won the $100,000 Arapahoe Park Classic outside Denver in August, setting the pace in that 1-1/8 miles event. Thursday night at Remington Park, the 4-year-old gelding raced in his third consecutive turf race here and managed to find victory for the first time since late summer while using a different style over 1-1/16 miles.

Owned by Black Gold Racing of Richardson, Texas and trained by Chris Hartman, No Spin received a heady ride from Ken Tohill who kept the gelding inside to save ground, waiting for the right opportunity to unleash his run. While racing within three lengths of the pace-setting Tiz Tee Time through the second turn, No Spin saved his best effort for the final furlong. Late in the stretch, Tohill asked No Spin to make his move and go through an opening along the rail. He answered both challenges to quickly find the lead and win by three-quarters of a length over a slew of late chargers.

Heavenville was in the middle of the lane, gaining second while another half-length back was the closing Red Lead. Tiz Tee Time, the beaten 2-1 wagering favorite, faltered off the lead and ended up fifth after giving up his advantage in late stretch.

No Spin crossed the finish in 1:42.18 over the firm turf and was 4-1 in the wagering to pay $10 to win, $5.60 to place and $4.40 to show. Heavenville paid $15.40 to place and $6.60 to show. Red Lead returned $4 to show.

The win was the fifth from 24 career attempts for No Spin, and his first in four tries at Remington Park. A Kentucky-bred son of Johannesburg from the General Meeting mare Dash For Money, No Spin earned $21,927 in victory to move his overall total to $266,656.

Remington Park’s 25th Anniversary Season of Thoroughbred racing continues Friday and Saturday, Oct. 18 & 19, with the first race at 7pm nightly. The 21st Oklahoma Classics, a divisional stakes series worth more than $1 million in purses, is the headline event this week. The full night of stakes racing for Oklahoma-bred Thoroughbreds is featured over 10 races on Friday night.

Open daily at 10:30am for casino gaming and simulcast racing, Remington Park also features the Bricktown Brewery on the casino floor.
