EXTRA DISTANCE SUITS AVIS E.
OKLAHOMA CITY – In her third start of the Remington Park season, Avis E. was afforded the opportunity to go longer than a sprint as she faced Oklahoma-bred fillies and mares going one mile. The $36,750 allowance around two turns worked out well as the 3-year-old filly took control to win by 2-1/2 lengths.
Owned by Gar Oil Corp. of Fort Worth, Texas and trained by Joe Offolter, Avis E. was ridden by Cliff Berry. She pressed the early pace set by Motivare before taking over in the final turn. Once in the stretch, Avis E. had command and was never threatened as she crossed the finish line in 1:39.88 over the fast track.
The 3-2 wagering favorite, Avis E. paid $5.40 to win, $3.20 to place and $2.60 to show. Classycountrygirl was second and paid $4.40 to place and $3 to show. Ziva’s Policy rallied for third and returned $7.80 to show.
The win was the second for Avis E. and her first at Remington Park. A filly by North Light (Ire) from the Indian Charlie mare Mudlaff Charlie, Avis E. made $21,222 for the victory to run her career total to $41,025.
Remington Park’s 25th Anniversary Season of Thoroughbred racing continues Friday and Saturday, Oct. 25 & 26 with the first race nightly at 7pm. The $50,000 E.L. Gaylord Memorial Stakes for 2-year-old fillies is the main event of the week, taking place Friday night.
