CANTICLE GETS CLEAR RAIL PASS IN REMINGTON DEBUT
OKLAHOMA CITY – Making her debut after competing in graded stakes company this summer in Iowa, Canticle took advantage of an opening at the rail to win her initial attempt at Remington Park. The 3-year-old filly scored by a neck in a $33,000 allowance/optional claiming event.
Owned by Craig Drago of Edmond, Okla. and trained by Chris Hartman, Canticle was ridden to victory by Ken Tohill. Canticle was sixth as the field left the turn in the six-furlong affair when the leader George’s Prayer, floated out at the top of the stretch. The clear path at the rail allowed Canticle to quickly move to the front and take the lead in mid-stretch. She then had to hold off both Nurse Goodnight and Wimbledon Star for the win, in 1:10.10 over the fast track.
Canticle was 9-5 in the wagering and paid $5.60 to win, $3.60 to place and $2.80 to show. Nurse Goodnight returned $13.80 to place and $8.20 to show. Wimbledon Star paid $4.20 to show. Behavioral was the beaten 6-5 wagering favorite, running sixth in the field of eight older fillies and mares.
A Kentucky-bred daughter of Unbridled’s Song from the Pulpit mare Palais Versailles, Canticle won her third career race from 13 attempts to pick up $19,647. The win boosts her lifetime earnings to $105,909.
