Brown repeats as Belmont fall meet leading trainer; Castellano takes third straight NYRA meet title; Darley Stable leading owner

 

ELMONT, N.Y. - For the second straight year Chad Brown reigned as the leading trainer during the Belmont Park fall meet with 26 wins, while Javier Castellano continued his strong run by winning 55 races en route to his third straight on The New York Racing Association, Inc. (NYRA) circuit.

 

Brown, 34, now has won a total of three NYRA meet titles, having also led all trainers during the 2010 Aqueduct Racetrack fall meeting.

 

Castellano, who turned 36 on October 23, annexed the Belmont spring/summer and Saratoga Race Course riding titles earlier this year. He has won a total of six NYRA meet titles.

 

Brown and Castellano partnered to win the Grade 2 Bowling Green Handicap with Hyper on September 7, the Grade 3 Pilgrim with Bobby's Kitten on October 6, and the Awad overnight stakes with Storming Inti on closing day.

 

In addition, Brown posted stakes victories in the Grade 1 Garden City with Alterite, the Spite the Devil overnight stakes with Readtheprospectus, the Grade 3 Miss Grillo with Testa Rossi, and Grade 3 Athenia with Pianist.

 

Castellano also won the Ashley T. Cole with Kharafa, the Grade 2 Gallant Bloom Handicap and Iroquois with unbeaten Cluster of Stars, the Jazzy overnight stakes with Baffle Me, the Grade 1 Beldame Invitational with Princess of Sylmar, the Catinca overnight stakes with Baby J, the Duck Dance overnight stakes with Caixa Eletronica, the Finney overnight stakes with Baffle Me, and the Belle Cherie overnight stakes with Wedding Toast.

 

Linda Rice finished second in the trainer standings with 21 wins, two more than Todd Pletcher.

 

The runner-up to Castellano was Jose Ortiz, who won 40 races. Rajiv Maragh was third with 28 triumphs.

 

The leading owner was Darley Stable, which won three races on closing day to edge Drawing Away Stable 9-8. Michael Dubb and the partnership of Klaravich Stables & William H. Lawrence tied for third with seven wins.
