REAL SOLUTION AND DANK TOP LIST OF 15 ARLINGTON-RACED HORSES ON LIST OF BREEDERS’ CUP PRE-ENTERED HORSES
ARLINGTON HEIGHTS, Ill. (Oct. 23, 2013) – Led by Breeders’ Cup Challenge winners Real Solution and Dank, a total of 15 horses who have raced at Arlington International Racecourse were among the 172 horses pre-entered for this year's Breeders’ Cup World Championships to be run at Santa Anita Park in Arcadia, Calif., on Friday, Nov. 1 and Saturday, Nov. 2. Of the 15 Arlington-raced horses, two were stakes winners here this year, six started here but did not win a stakes race here in 2013 (though of those are past stakes winners here) and the remaining seven raced here in previous seasons including two additional stakes winners.
The Grade I Arlington Million and Grade I Beverly D. were again part of the Breeders’ Cup Challenge “Win and You’re In” format, which automatically places the winners of selected major stakes races at racetracks worldwide including Arlington International, into a corresponding divisional race. Beverly D. heroine Dank used her “Win & You’re In” berth for the Grade I $2 million Breeders’ Cup Filly & Mare Turf and the connections of Real Solution used their berth for Grade I $3 million Breeders’ Cup Turf.
As has been the case over the years, Arlington Million runners figure prominently in the Turf. In addition to Real Solution, other 2013 Million starters listed among the 13 horses pre-entered for the mile and a half race are Grandeur (finished seventh), Indy Point (13th) and 2012 Million hero Little Mike (sixth) who went on to capture last year’s Turf. Skyring, who ran third in the 2012 Arlington Classic, is the other horse with an Arlington connection pre-entered for the Turf, the second-richest race in the Breeders’ Cup.
Joining Dank on the list of a dozen females pre-entered for the Filly & Mare Turf is 2012 Beverly D. runner-up Marketing Mix, who finished fourth this year and is also the winner of the 2011 Grade III Pucker Up here.
Two 2013 Arlington-races horses are among the 17 2-year-olds pre-entered for the Grade I $1 million Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Turf – graded stakes winner Poker Player, who debuted at Arlington this summer before winning the Grade III Bourbon at Keeneland; and Smarty’s Echo, who broke his maiden here prior to running second in the Grade I Breeders’ Futurity at Keeneland. Smarty’s Echo is also pre-entered in the Grade I $2 million Breeders’ Cup Juvenile and his connections list that race as first preference.
Horses with prior year starts at Arlington who have been pre-entered for this year’s event are: Fort Larned, who ran off the board in his lone Arlington start in the 2011 Arlington Classic, seeks to defend his title in the Grade I $5 million Breeders’ Cup Classic; Havelock, winner of the Arlington Sprint in 2011 and the Grade III Hanshin Cup the following season, is one of 18 nominated to the Grade I $1 million Geico Breeders’ Cup Turf Sprint, as is Silver Max, the 2012 Arlington Classic winner. Silver Max is also on the list of 16 pre-entries for the Grade I $2 million Breeders’ Cup mile with that race chosen as first preference.
