(NYRA) at Belmont Park beginning Saturday, October 19. The bet will be available on all NYRA races that currently offer trifecta wagering. Saturday is Empire Showcase Day presented by The Fund at Belmont Park, with an 11-race card featuring seven stakes races for New York-breds. First race post time is 12:20 p.m. "The 50-cent trifectas have been popular elsewhere around the country and we're pleased to now be able to offer them on races at Belmont Park, Aqueduct Racetrack and Saratoga Race Course," said Eric Wing, NYRA's Director of Communications and Media Relations. "With the new, lower minimum, bettors both on- and off-track will be able to affordably cover more horses as they construct their trifecta tickets." In a trifecta, the bettor must select the first three finishers of a race in the correct sequence in order to win. Lowering the minimum wager from one dollar to fifty cents permits a bettor to cover different combinations for a lesser investment. For example, a four-horse trifecta box for $1 would cost $24 while the same ticket at 50 cents would cost $12. The 50-cent trifecta is the second new wager offered by NYRA at the Belmont meet, joining the 50-cent Pick 5 wager that spans races 1-5. NYRA also offers a 50-cent minimum Pick 4, as well as a 10-cent superfecta, in which the first four finishers of a race must be selected in the correct order. -30-
