BIRZER TRIPLES, TIES BERRY FOR JOCKEY STANDINGS LEAD

OKLAHOMA CITY – Remington Park’s Oklahoma Derby racing week got underway Thursday night with Alex Birzer making victorious noise as he ascends the jockey standings.

Birzer posted a riding triple, moving him into a tie atop the rider standings with Cliff Berry. Both jockeys now have 22 victories and share the top spot, just one win ahead of Luis Quinonez who is third with 21 scores.

Birzer began his hat trick by winning the opening race on the card with Kip Debut ($9.60 to win). In race seven, Teton Beauty ($4.20) came home first to give Birzer a double on the night. He completed the three-win evening with Real Appeal Deal ($14) in the eighth.

Real Appeal Deal rolled from the back of the field of 11 going one mile in allowance company. Owned by Bryan Boone of Lexington, Ky. and trained by Tim G. Williams, Real Appeal rallied wide through the final turn and then powered the length of the stretch to rundown pacesetting Pricelesscommodity to win by a half-length.

Real Appeal Deal handled the mile over the main track in 1:38.28. The win is his third from 14 attempts and his second at Remington Park. A 3-year-old gelding by Successful Appeal from the Fantastic Fellow mare Fantastic Caroline, Real Appeal Deal picked up $17,694 for the triumph to run his earnings to $74,208.
