STORM’S PROMISE BRINGS THE GIRL POWER IN DEFEATING MALES
OKLAHOMA CITY – Thursday’s $30,000 Starter Allowance feature, for any runner who had started for a claiming price at some point in their career, had 11 talented runners testing the five furlongs on turf. The only filly in the race, Storm’s Promise, came off the lone turn with authority then held off a late charge by many to triumph.
Owned by Jerry Namy of Fort Worth, Texas and trained by Karl Broberg, Storm’s Promise was ridden by Glen Murphy. Pressing the pace through the first half of the turf sprint, Storm’s Promise rolled into the stretch with a clear lead. She was able to outlast the rally of many closers to win by 1-1/2 lengths over Que Posse, the beaten 2-1 wagering favorite. Storm’s Promise handled the five turf furlongs in :57.25 over the firm going.
The 3-year-old Storm’s Promise left the starting gate at 4-1 odds in the wagering and paid $10 to win, $4.80 to place and $3.60 to show. Que Posse returned $4 to place and $2.60 to show. Solar Charge was third and paid $4 to show.
The win was the seventh from 15 lifetime attempts for Storm’s Promise and her second at Remington Park, both this year. A Kentucky-bred filly by Seattle Fitz (Arg.) from the Storm Creek mare Storm’s Secret, Storm’s Promise made $17,694 for the win over her 10 male rivals. Her career earnings now stand at $149,834.
