SPRING WARRIOR CONTINUES ROMPING WAYS, WINS THIRD STRAIGHT
OKLAHOMA CITY – Spring Warrior loves Remington Park and long one-turn sprints here. Friday night he rolled to his third consecutive victory in as many Oklahoma City attempts, once again cruising to an easy win with plenty in reserve.
Owned by Clark Brewster of Tulsa, Okla. and trained by Steve Asmussen, Spring Warrior broke his maiden status in September going 6-1/2 furlongs, winning by 14 lengths. He followed that with a 9-1/4 length score in October, again at 6-1/2 furlongs. Friday night he stretched to the longest local sprint distance of seven furlongs to triumph again.
Under jockey Luis Quinonez, Spring Warrior was best away from the starting gate and glided around the main track along the rail without extending himself. Despite having some pressing company through the first half-mile, Spring Warrior was allowed to run at his leisure. The 3-year-old colt handled a quarter-mile in :22.67 seconds, a half-mile in :45.35 seconds and three-quarters of a mile in 1:09.82.
Coming off the turn, Spring Warrior was let loose by Quinonez and stretched out to a five-length lead with a furlong left. My Silver Bear managed to get through traffic by the end of the turn to make an unthreatening bid in second. Spring Warrior crossed the finish in 1:23.25 over the fast track to win by 2-3/4 lengths.
The heavy wagering favorite at 1-/2 odds, Spring Warrior paid $3 to win, $2.20 to place and $2.20 to show. My Silver Bear paid $3.20 to place and $2.60 to show. Speakfromyourheart was another 2-3/4 lengths behind the runner-up to pay $7.20 to show.
A Kentucky-bred by Speightstown from the Pulpit mare Ten Carat Lady, Spring Warrior has won three of nine career starts. Friday’s $18,747 first-place check moved Spring Warrior’s total earnings to $81,491.
The Remington Park Thoroughbred Season continues Saturday, Nov. 17 with the first race at 6:30pm.
