palazzo babe wins friday at fg
By Graham Ross, Staff Writer
NEW ORLEANS (Friday, Nov. 30, 2012) – Frank Ready’s Palazzo Babe, quickly in command, lost the advantage leaving the backstretch in Friday’s featured $51,000 grass sprint at Fair Grounds but came on again in the late stages to best Brittlyn Stable’s Sunday’s Child by a nose in the final jump.
Trained by Michelle Lovell, who was saddling her first winner of the season, Palazzo Babe was ridden by Miguel Mena. The 5-year-old daughter of Rahy paid $5.20, $3 and $2.40, toured the distance over the firm Stall-Wilson Turf Course in 1:06.04 and increased her earnings to $225,820 with her seventh win in 32 lifetime starts.
Sunday’s Child, alternating for the early fractions of 23.87 and 48.52 with the winner, easily saved the place, paying $7.60 and $4.20 while finishing 1 3/4-lengths in front of Pop-A-Top LLC’s Always Here Too, who returned $3.
Racing resumes Saturday at Fair Grounds with a 10-race program beginning at 12:40 p.m.
